[Tears of My Heart] 10. Tears of a Couple

Raymond Eng

“Then the Lord God said, ‘it is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him a helper fit for him.” (Genesis 2:18)

One year on my wife’s birthday, I thought of her sacrifice for me, enduring those difficult days in life, her relentless love and support, and countless nights she knelt next to me to pray together. Every single one of these images reemerging in front of my eyes, I can’t help but shed tears… Indeed, I am very blessed! Like the bible says, “she is bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh.” Thank God! Knowing I don’t do too well being alone, God had prepared for me a wonderful godly wife to travel this heavenly pilgrimage with me, to bear up the grace and duty of life, so I honor her. Yet to my family I also feel I have shortchanged them, to which I feel ashamed. When I was working in the garment industries and being so busy, I have neglected my family’s needs, causing a lot of worry for her. So, on that birthday I told her, “In the past, I have not taken good care of you and the three daughters. Now, I shall cherish this family, including our four grandchildren. I will spend more time with the family, to enjoy this heavenly blessing together. To express my love and gratitude to my wife, I gave her a card, within the cards are these words:

You have hands that I love to hold;
You have smiles that light me up.
You have words that make everything better;
You have kisses that make me melt;
You have my love, you always will;
We have God we both share our love.

I love my wife very much, I thank her for what she had done. She is that excellent wife, Proverbs 31:10-12 says, “An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.” Thus, “an excellent wife is the crown of her husband.” (Proverbs 12:4a). I am willing to ‘take her hand and grow old together’ to bear the same yoke to run the pathway of heaven!
